Welcome to the home of Saint Joseph Regional Baseball
Male Athlete of the Week: Rob Kaminsky of St. Joseph
The junior left-hander from St. Joseph has a dugout full of friends and family flowing in and out of his Englewood Cliffs house, especially when the Yankees face the Red Sox on TV.
"My house is awesome," The Record Male Athlete of the Week said. "It’s just a fun environment. We bring in some interesting characters."
Kaminsky, 17, has a half-dozen friends who stop by regularly, and several of them stayed over this past weekend. His older brother, Joe, has a close group of friends who visit. And his older sister, Anna, is there with her boyfriend. Their uncles, Mike and Tom, are featured guests.
There’s plenty of activities. Kaminsky, who last week threw a two no-hitters and was 8-for-13 with four RBI at the plate, has a batting cage in his back yard. There’s also a basketball hoop in the driveway. Inside, there’s poker, sports on TV and the most rivalrous activity, pingpong.
"Pingpong is probably the most competitive thing at my house," said Kaminsky, a B student who enjoys math and history. "But it gets a little too competitive. It gets painful for people."
Kaminsky is extremely competitive and has led St. Joseph to a 13-0 start. He is a Division I recruit and has narrowed his choices to North Carolina, Virginia, Florida State and Florida. His friends often come to his games.
"I love it," Kaminsky said of his friendships. "It’s just fun to have a good supporting group.’’
Of course, if "Guess Who’s at the Door?" was transformed into a reality TV show, Kaminsky’s parents, Donna and Alan, would have to be well-compensated.
"My dad used to want a quiet house and be able to go to sleep, and now he likes it,’’ Kaminsky said. "And my mom’s like a second mom to all of them. That’s what they say."
Also nominated: Justin Avedissian of Wayne Hills, Mike Dittfield of Hawthorne, Anthony Gould ofTenafly, Derek Hyland of Ridgefield Park and Mike Lembo of DePaul for baseball; Taylor Cudequest of Pascack Hills and Brandon Gregory of Old Tappan for track and field; George Mundanchira of Don Bosco for volleyball.

The start of the 2012 Season is here. The opening week has the Green Knights taking on Eastside, Don Bosco, Teaneck and Ramapo.
As mentioned at the Baseball is Back Dinner, the Green Knights will be dedicating the 2012 Season to helping children with Pediatric Cancer in conjunction with an organization called "Go 4 The Goal".
Below is a PDF of a flyer with more details on this great and noble effort by the men of SJR.
